Join the Democratic Party NOW!!!

We believe the processes and practices of county, state, and the national government must manifest honest stewardship of the public trust. Government should be efficient, accountable, people-friendly, and open to examination and inquiry. Elected and appointed public officials should be free of any conflict of interest or the appearance of such conflict at all times. Governmental meetings should be open to the public, with exceptions only in instances supported by law. Opportunity for public comment and input should be the norm.

The Republican leadership in the North Carolina Legislature has passed some serious cuts to education, from Pre-k through college. The local Democratic Party asks: who is this benefiting?

The cuts have led to larger class sizes, fewer teachers and teacher assistants, and tuition hikes at our State Universities. Here in Carteret County we have a shortage of bus drivers due to the loss of many teacher assistants, and declining enrollment at Carteret Community College due, in part, to new state restrictions affecting the dual enrollment program with Cape Lookout High School. (Carteret News Times, Jan 13, 2012).

Are you, your children or grandchildren affected by these cuts? Do you have children in school now? Ask your children how their classes and their school day are different this year. Ask their teachers about the effects these cuts have made in their classrooms.

The Republican Legislature is causing real harm to our children's future and they are doing it right now.If you are not benefiting from these cuts to education in NC, the local Democratic Party has a place for you. Education is important and standing up for our schools is the right thing to do.
