Hello Woman Voter,
The Constitution did not give you the right to vote!
How does it make you feel to be told you cannot do something?
It took women fighting hard, 90 years ago, to earn this privilege. They
faced mobs, jail and even torture before the fight was won. That victory -
your one vote - now makes you a member of the female voter majority.
As a voting majority women have the power to win elections and influence
legislation. It's important women turn out to vote in every election because
we do make a difference. This is a privilege brave women in the early 1900's
fought and sacrificed for so we could participate in the Democratic Process.
Sometimes it feels like the whole world is fighting for this right.
No question life is better for you and your community because of such
Democratic legislation as Social Security, Minimum Wage, Unemployment
Compensation, Workers' Compensation, Overtime Pay, Integrated Armed forces,
GI Bill, Medicare, Medicaid, Civil Rights and Women's Rights, Student Loans
and the Clean Water-Clean Air Act, and that's just for starters. It
was a Democratic President, Mr. Wilson, that moved the 19th amendment
forward giving women the right to vote.
If you want better health, education, employment, water and beaches as
nature intended, you will have to fight the good fight and elect
representatives who share those values. Remember 3 votes elected Wade Nelms
County Commissioner in 2006, one Supreme Court vote elected George Bush
president in 2000, and one vote gave corporations the right to bankroll
their own candidates.
So one vote matters - especially yours because women voters
make up the majority of voters.
VOTE!
.......or risk losing so much of what you value.
Democracy cannot flourish without the consent - the vote - of the governed.
You are invited to join Carteret County Democratic Women
for our monthly meetings on the 4th Tuesday of the month at Ruby Tuesday's

Bait-n-switch
As a woman you know something about bait-n-switch, be it from car dealers
or supermarkets. And now you see it with Republicans. Before the election
they were all about the economy, least that’s what they said. And all about
Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

What's A Kid Worth?
The University of Kansas recently did a study on hundreds of thousands of students and came up with the facts that it costs taxpayers millions of dollars for every kid who drops out of high school. Read More >>>
Smart Alec
I remember 3rd Grade and marching down the sidewalk under the trees. The
teacher grabbed this kid and yanked him out of line, said loud enough so the
whole school could hear, “None of that during fire drill.” Whatever that
was? Then she called him, Smart Alec. Given that he was underhanded and a
bully, I guessed that was what Smart Alec meant. Now there’s another Alec
around, but this one has the bullying power of a tyrant.
