NC Senate, District 2
As a native North Carolinian and 20-year resident of Carteret County, I am ready to serve District 2 in the North Carolina Senate and initiate common sense conversations based on moderate core values and bipartisan action and partnership. North Carolinians deserve a fiscally responsible government committed to balancing a budget, supporting sustainable job creation, protecting our coast and fishing industry, and investing in education, new technology, and infrastructure to ensure a prosperous future for coastal North Carolinians in Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico counties. NC House, District 13
Teacher, artist, truck driver and grandmother of six. Now, an activist. I’ve spent a year writing letters, stamping postcards, sending emails, faxes, calling legislator after legislator. I’ve attended rallies, heck, I’ve organized rallies. Nobody listened. So I realized that I had to take the next step. I am running an Unaffiliated campaign. This will be the year to vote in the candidates who respond and act upon the values and needs of their CONSTITUENTS – not their Party’s. I am Your Independent Voice. Carteret County Commissioner, District 6
I am running for Carteret County Commissioner to tackle local issues like creating jobs, dealing with the opioid crisis, protecting our coast and keeping politics out of county public schools. With the current board of commissioners, if you are not at the table, you are on the menu. Together we can change this. As a veteran and retired United States Marine I know how to get results. I know when tough challenges arise, real leaders step up. I intend to be that kind of leader for the citizens for Carteret County. I am asking for your support and your vote on November 6, 2018. Carteret County Commissioner, District 1
Carteret County Commissioner, District 2
I am running because the issues that are important to you, are important to me. It’s time to stop the nonsense and use common sense. My issues are the four E’s; Environment, Education, Epidemic, and Economy. The time for change is now. I have lived in Carteret County since 1993, moving here my Freshman year in High School. I obtained my Associates in Arts degree from Carteret Community College in 2004. I met Sterling here in 1999, and our three children were born here. They all currently attend Carteret County Public Schools. This county has always been special to me, and Carteret is where I decided to plant my roots. I love where I live. I have been very fortunate to be a Carteret County resident. The citizens of Carteret deserve to be heard, and know that our concerns matter, especially on local issues that impact us directly. Vote Katie Tomberlin for Carteret County Commissioner, and together, we can shine a light on the issues that matter to all of us! For more info visit katieforcarteret.com.
Carteret County School Board
Carteret County School Board, District 1
I would like the opportunity to serve on the Carteret County School Board. I am running in District 1, where I have resided in Emerald Isle for 29 years. I attended Appalachian State University and received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology, with a concentration in Community College Education. After moving to Carteret County, I served as the Intellectual Disabilities Specialist for Carobell ICF-MR facilities, taught Sociology at Coastal Carolina Community College, and was a Reader for the Educational Testing Services. For the past 12 years I have been a part time instructor at Carteret Community College, working primarily with students in the High School Equivalency [GED] Program. There is no more important responsibility for our community than nurturing, protecting, and educating our children. Essential to carrying out these tasks is openness, constructive dialogue, reasonable policies, and being a good steward of our tax dollars. My husband of 40 years, Jim, and I have three grown sons who all attended public school in Carteret County. I am an active member of St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church in Salter Path where I sing in the choir, and belong to the Daughters of the King. Recently I completed five years on the Board of Directors of the Parents Association at Appalachian State University. I believe my experiences as a parent, Community College educator, and my Board membership at the University level, gives me a multifaceted perspective. I feel blessed to reside in beautiful Carteret County and to have been able to raise my sons here.
Carteret County School Board, District 3
I am running for the Carteret County School Board in District 3. I have been an educator all of my life, so the decision to run was important to me. I was born and raised in Morehead City. After graduating from West Carteret High School, I attended Meredith College and received a BS in Psychology and my teacher certification. I received a MS degree in Child Development and Family Relations from ECU and remained in eastern NC where I worked with children through Social Services child care, Mental Health Services for high risk children and Head Start. Later, I spent most of my teaching career in Wilson County. I attained my National Board Certification before retiring from Craven County Schools. My husband, Jimmy, and I have three children who successfully made their way through NC public schools and colleges. I now work part time in Adult Basic Education at Carteret Community College. As a school board member, I will work to defend and conserve the institution that offers all children the biggest hope for a better future…public school education.
